E-Ink's revolutionary display is in fact, simple in construction.

Cells containing black and white pigmented microcapsules are sealed between two electrodes; the upper electrode being transparent. By applying charges across each plane, individual cells can be activated black or white.

The display is available in segmented and active matrix configurations depending on application. In present manufacture, segmented is both more flexible and more cost effective. For this reason, our concepts are based chiefly on the segmented incarnation of E-Ink.

Advantages

Flexibility - the display can be flexed without image degradation.

Bi-stability - the display only consumes energy as an image changes. For this reason, static patterns can be displayed without power or degradation for up to seven years.

High-contrast - the crisp black and white of the display make it perfect for application in retail and warehouse environments.

Non-backlit - the display can be viewed from almost any angle in almost any artificial or natural lighting condition.
